In 1964, she married Baron Niclas Silfverschiöld in Stockholm. As the union was deemed an unequal marriage in royal rank, she relinquished her formal style as a Royal Highness and Princess of Sweden. In recognition of her heritage, her grandfather, King Gustaf VI Adolf, granted her the unique title she would hold for life: Princess Désirée, Baroness Silfverschiöld.
